Party Skirts...

Ah, the holidays. It brings good cheer and plenty of ways to show it. One of my favourite things about the holidays are the wondrous excuses to get dressed up! And what is more fun than wearing a party skirt? Here are my picks for looking fab and festive this month!

Skater skirts are huge this season. And it is a great thing that they are. They flatter everyone by having fullness in the skirt that in turn makes the waist look smaller. Being a pear shaped gal myself, I love a full skirt to balance me out. This one is in velvet and it is from Addition Elle and it is $29.99.

I could say that this skirt is a gem, but that would be an incredibly sad pun. Anna Scholz has a collection with Simply Be that is lower on pricepoint but is still high on style. This fantastic little number is on sale and can be yours for $45.00 compliments of Simply Be

Ah, sequins. My faithful holiday companion! Where would I be without you? I love how the black stretch panels make this look like a tuxedo skirt. Pair this with a cashmere sweater for a party and come Spring throw on a t shirt and a denim jacket and you have a cute date night outfit!
This skirt is by Mynt 1792 and is from Bloomingdale's for $132.83 CDN.

Jibri is easily one of my favorite brands. Why? Because the designer, Jasmine Elder is no stranger to a polka dot and her skirts are well cut and so well made, as are all of her clothes. This skirt screams party. Wear it while sitting under the tree and listening to swinging jazz. It is from Jibri and it is $120.00 USD.

To quote my Grade Seven self, this skirt is all that and a bag of chips. Just picture....black cami, ecru silk floral brooch, vintage rhinestone clip-on earrings and a ballerina bun. Simply amazing and is from Blogger turned Designer Tanesha Awasthi. They are selling out quickly, but sizes come available frequently. The size run is from 8-24W. This will be in my wardrobe...oh yes. It is $145.00 and is from Tanesha Awasthi.

Sheer layer? Check. Faux leather dots? Check. Understated fullness of the skirt? Check. Comfortable elastic waistband? Check. Yes, all of the boxes that make an amazing skirt have been checked. Our friends at Carmakoma have outdone themselves with this adorable garment. Buy now for parties but keep it for the upcoming wedding season in the summer and pair with dressy shirt and blazer and clutch. This skirt is $120.56 Euros and it is from Carmakoma.

It's the holidays! We all need a bit of flounce! This black skirt has an elastic waistband that makes it perfect for all of those decadent holiday meals and cookie exchanges that we go to! This skirt can take you places...pair with a sequin top for festivities, with a cashmere shell and blazer for work and with a knit top moto jacket for a night on the town. This skirt is from Penningtons and is $48.00.

Well, there you have it my lovelies! You may have noticed that most of the skirts I chose are black. I didn't do that without thought behind it. I figured that I can't be the only gal that is a messy eater and is guaranteed to drop a gravy soaked brussel sprout on to my lap. Black has your back! I hope all of your engagements are filled with laughter and joy. I know mine will be...and I will bring a tide pen or two!

Plaid About You!

There is something about plaid that just captures the coziness and rustic nature of living in a cold climate during the Winter. Cocooning yourself in plaid flannel sheets, buttoning up a thick wool plaid shirt for venturing outside, slipping on a warm plaid sweater to plug in your block heater or boogying down to holiday tunes in plaid undies. Plaid simply makes Winter more festive. Here are my favourite picks for making plaid part of your cold weather experience. (I added the dusting of snow on to the images, just for funsies.)

Isn't this shirt a treat? The black and white makes this a more elevated statement in plaid and the cotton flannel makes it easy to wear and care for. Pair it with dark skinnies and boots for day to day or tuck into a full black party skirt with pearl earrings and red lips. This, lovelies, can be found at Lands End for $59.00.

This dress is just lovely. It is festive, flattering on pretty well all body types and is very mid century in design. Pair with a chunky heeled pump and again a swipe of red lipstick and you are ready for a holiday party! It is on sale for $84.95 at eShakti. The great thing about eShakti is that it serves a wide swath of the population with their amazing size range. eShakti offers sizes from 0-36W! If you have never checked them out, please do! (They also do custom work.)

This lined 70% wool skirt will keep you cozy on the way to all of the holiday parties you wear this with. If you are looking for an extra crisp look, pair with patent ballet flats, a winter white blouse and a set of pearls. This could also be worn with a chambray shirt tucked in for a fun lumberjack chic look. It is from Talbots and is $109.00. However, if you sign up for Talbots' emails, they will prompt you when this baby is on promotion. Talbots is very good quality, and well worth each penny spent there. I love them!

Picture this cotton cardigan with a white cami, boyfriend jeans, a vintage Moschino belt and a slouchy toque with flowing waves. Okay, maybe the belt will be hard to find in our size, but a girl can dream! This lovely cardigan is from Torrid and it is $48.50. (Everything in the store is BOGO 50% off right now, so act fast!)

This cotton yard dyed blouse could be worn to work. I would tuck it into a black pencil skirt and pair it with a basic black blazer and petal pink lipstick. (It would look best alongside a Prada saffiano leather pink tote, too!) This piece is from Penningtons and is on sale for $29.99. What a deal!

Ah, the wrap dress. Universally flattering and beloved by many. Great for work, brunch, date night and frankly it is so comfortable and easy to wear, throw on some boots and take on the day. I would pair this dress with this lipstick, from Nars. A bold pink for a fun statement! This dress is from Saks Fifth Avenue and it is on sale for $86.28.

How cute is this? And do you know what makes this sweater even better? It is on sale. This sweater needs to be worn when decorating the tree and sipping some hot cocoa. You could wear this with a party skirt or pleather leggings and look badass!
The sweater is from Nordstrom and it is $52.43.

As promised, here are some plaid panties just right for cranking up the Christmas tunes and shaking your booty. These boyshort briefs are $8.00 and are from Penningtons. (You can get 5 for $25.00, a heck of a deal!)

Well, there you have it!
The best outfits happen when you step outside your comfort zone, so take a chance on any of these pieces and enjoy your Winter!

Chanel Inspired...

Is there anything more Chanel than quilted leather, boucle, chains and cropped jackets? I think not. Fortunately for all of us Chanel fans that have neither the coin nor are in their scope of sizes, we have some fabulous options right now. Here are the goodies that I have found and/or own that look like they have been kissed by the mind of Lagerfeld.

I will be the first one to admit, the bomber jacket, while it is pretty isn't very Chanel. But the skirt is! Wow! This quilted pleather mini is to die for. This skirt would look amazing paired with a crisp white blouse, multiple strands of pearls and a chain belt. It is from Mynt 1792 and is $108.00.

This pretty jacket was one of those items that I saw and knew I had to run to the shop and snap it up! Good thing I did! They were almost sold out. This piece is made of a stretch fabric that doesn't let you look boxy in it for a minute. The chain and quilted (faux) leather is a detail that is rarely seen on plus fashion items. This piece is so well made and looks amazing with jeggings. It is from Addition-Elle and it is now on sale! It can be yours for $59.99! It fits true to size.

These boots are so fab. Who ever thought that we would get quilted leather in a wide calf boot? I had only dreamed. These are made for Canadian winters as they are lined with fleece and cover up one's leg up to the knee. They can be found at Penningtons as part of their MBLM collection. They are $95.00. They will also be found in my closet as of next week!
This belt is pretty and functional and fits with any Chanel inspired look. It has a stretch band in the back of the belt making it comfortable and easy to wear. Slung over a tunic with some leggings and the above quilted boot and some pearls, and you have mastered the look. The belt is from Asos and it is $33.76 SHIPPED!

And as a special treat to end off this post....here is Karl Lagerfeld WITHOUT his shades on!

Have a great week, everyone!

All That Glitters Is Gold...

Everywhere I look, I see gold! It isn't a case of "gold fever", and I am not on my way to the Klondike. However, the colour is growing on me. (Perhaps there is a bit of 49er in me after all!) But before I get carried away reminiscing about the "gold rush", panning and claim staking, I will get to the fashion.

There are pieces that I have found that are for everyone; from the girl wanting the full midas touch to a curious person that wants just a hint of gold to add to an ensemble.

I will start with the showstoppers.

What a gorgeous jacket! And it is SILK!
With a piece like this, you want to let it sing, so I would avoid pairing it with anything else that would take away from it's majesty. That means I would nix any coordinating gold pants, shell, or skirt. You don't want to look like a Nan on a cruise!
The jacket in question is from Youthery Khmer and is $129.00.

How pretty do the deep red lips look paired with this gold sequin cardigan?
It doesn't have a closure, like the piece above, making it curve skimming. It looks stylish with a trouser and would look phenomenal with a pair of heels and boyfriend jeans. This item is from Igigi and is $90.00.

Wow! This David Meister dress really brings it home! Not only that, but it is on sale! It went from $603.03 to a much more palatable $241.32. This is a well made dress that one will treasure for years. Pair it with nude heels and prepare to be a head turner! This dress is from Saks Fifth Avenue and it is $241.32.

Casual pieces are next...

This sweater is on my "as soon as it goes on sale, it is MINE!" list. It has a hint of rose gold about it and is a chunkier knit than the average cotton sweater, but it doesn't overtake the garment. I am looking forward to this with jeggings and ballet flats and loose curls. How pretty. This lovely creature is from Hudson's Bay and is $109.00.

This tank is wonderful...and goes up to a 3X. It will be perfect for under a blazer in colder weather, and paired with a denim jacket for when the seasons change to Spring and Summer. I am impressed that The Bay have stepped up their Plus Size selection online. I love looking to Canadian retailers first before crossing the border...it saves duty and shipping fees and makes your heart feel cozy and warm inside! Go Canada! This top is by Peter Nygard and it is $59.00

Please don't pair these with any of the above items! You will look like one of Goldfinger's painted victims. These coated jeans are beautiful and go up to a size 20. I would pair these beauties with a simple white t shirt and a black blazer and a sock bun. They would also look amazing with blush pink. They are from Old Navy and are $42.50. But! Old Navy is ripe with sales, so sign up for their emails and be moderately patient.

Here lie little hints of gold. These are ideal for people who just want a touch to add some sparkle.

So cute and so cheap! $4.80 will get you this little gem of a headwrap. Wear it with your hair up or down, you will look cute as a button and on trend. If you need some ideas on how to pull this off, not a worry, I have you covered.

This belt is perfect for the person who isn't looking to overhaul their wardrobe with gold, but would like just a whisper kiss of it. Wear it to cinch in a waist, accent a dress or add sparkle to jeans. This piece will be able to go from season to season with you. And, it is just $13.13 from Asos. The second best part of Asos (apart from the great clothes) is that the shipping is free!

Did I save the best for last? Perhaps. What is not to love? Cozy shearling, and lavish gold glitter! These are at top of my winter accessories list this year. They are made by Ugg, and if their boots are any indication of quality, this will be wonderfully warm and last you for years to come. It is perfect for injecting fun into the doldrums of Winter. They are by Ugg and are found at Nordstrom for $76.97

Well, there you have it folks! My list of gold goodies from investment pieces to accessories. Each piece is fun and adds instant glam. Stay warm and we will chat soon!

Penningtons Holiday Favourites

I want to preface this by saying that I think that Penningtons gets a bum rap. I too used to turn my nose up at the big blue and yellow signage and walk on by to places like Addition-Elle and Lucy. However, this year thanks to nothing but providence, I walked in, had a great time and left with bags of clothes. I am liking what I am seeing! I love their blouses and how they don't gape at my chest, and how they are just the right length, shorter than a tunic, but just a bit longer than an average shirt, perfect for flattering my figure. I love how their jeggings are snug in all the right places and have a ridiculously comfortable waistband. I love how their sheer blouses give a hint of skin, but not too much... just the right amount. Now, my Penningtons blouses and jeggings sit nestled next to my J Crew sweaters and Eileen Fisher skirts, just as they ought to.

But! On to my picks from their holiday lookbook!

This fuchsia blazer is all kinds of awesome. The colour is perfect, the cut skims the body but does not add bulk and it is a nice length to elongate the torso. I love it. It will look fantastic with dark denim, fun with graphic skirts and can carry one from the Winter into Spring. Most importantly, how awesome will it look with polka dots?! It is $68.00 and will be available later this season. I, for one am stalking the website daily waiting for it.

Pastels! Oh yes, yes, yes! I must admit that I love seafoam. I must also admit that I have never seen actual foam from the sea in this colour. It is always a dirty beige. Let's call this soft mint, shall we? Pastels can look 'hospital' very easily, but this colour has enough bright white in it to avoid that fate.  I love how the fabric just drapes and the rolled up sleeves make the outfit look polished, yet relaxed. If this blouse also comes in an off white and a soft pink, I might just keel over with delight. This blouse comes in at a extraordinarily reasonable price of $42.00. It has yet to be released.

I wish I could tell you more about this rack. But I just had to include it. It has soft pink in it. Not just pink alone, but with lace! I am very curious about this garment and I figure we will be together. It looks like an elevated baseball shirt of knit pink sleeves and a pink with lace overlay front. I think it needs some sweet seed pearl earrings, a ballerina inspired top knot and delicate peach blush to go with it. I do like the white popcorn sweater as well, however, I have two lovely Cats that would make very short work of the weave!

This rose gold confection of a belt *is* available right now in store and online. I am currently pairing it with my black and white striped dress and a soft pink sateen blazer. It is only $18.00 and can be found here

There you have it, folks! These are the delightful items I am waiting for with baited breath. I will update this page as the items come available. Have a lovely rest of the week!
